Blog assignment #4

There are many casual sounds throughout this scene. These sounds range from characters having a conversation, to hearing the sipping sounds coming from a cup of coffee that a character is drinking. When the scene starts off, we see the character named Todd throw Scott through a wall. Naturally you hear what sounds like a wall being broken open with bricks hitting the ground left and right. You also hear the normal sounds of doors opening and closing when characters enter and exit. To defeat Todd, Scott gets him to drink coffee that has half and half in it when he is a vegan. You hear the casual sound of Todd sipping his coffee. After Todd drinks the half and half, two vegan cops enter the building. At this point we're hearing casual sounds and semantic sounds at once. The two cops break through the wall so we again hear bricks falling to the ground and the wall breaking. However, we also hear police sirens in the background. They represent the fact that there are police cars outside, the audience just can't see them. As far as the size of the space, when Scott is first thrown threw the wall, he grunts and that grunt starts off really loud and then gets quieter to represent that fact that he is "falling away from us" or "falling away" from the camera shot. Also going along with size and distance, when the sound or sirens is heard in the background, we know it is in the background because the "size" of the sound is small. The sound is not louder than the main focus of the scene so it is assumed that the sirens are far away. For movement, there is a moment when Todd brings the cup closer to him using his "vegan" powers of levitation. While the cup is moving, you hear is passing you by.

Blog assignment #3

Acknowledging the lizard is basically an idea of what to call resistance. Resistance being the lizard. With acknowledging it, one can effectively ignore it. This resistance is the thing that's in your head telling you to follow instructions. One of the things resistance effects is shipping. You may be able to develop an idea the fastest, but if you resist shipping it because of doubt or the resistance, than you can ultimately lose something that would be very profitable for your company perhaps. Finally, if you do fail at shipping, the only thing you can do it learn. Learn from everything that you succeed at or fail at. Taking one step to get your brain to think differently is just the beginning. We need to keep learning.

These exercises can be seen as helpful or a waste of time. I feel that some people might view these exercises as mindless, busywork, however I think that anyone who is really willing to work for that creative mind, this wouldn't be a burden. These exercises would be more of a test to prove to yourself that you have what it takes. I generally like to be reminded that I have what it takes to make it. As far as these blogs go, they may seem like mindless busywork at times, but when I finish doing them I realize that I have subconsciously required a new way of thinking and a more intelligent way of thinking. The layers that I summarized are two that are towards the end. Those two are ship and learn. The reason I picked those two is because for the shipping, I really appreciate the encouragement that it includes to take risks. As everyone knows, taking risks can be one of scariest things a person will encounter in their lives and the encouragement certainly helps. It also touches on not being afraid to fail. This idea I also appreciate because people often put way too much pressure on themselves and are then incredibly afraid of failure. However, this article points out that failure isn't always necessarily a bad thing. It can be a total learning experience. Which brings me to the last pillar, which is learn. This pillar basically says that everything that happens in life is a learning experience. It encourages us to try and forget what we've already been taught and learn new things from our newly empty minds. What we find could be incredibly different from what we already know. I think that's these exercises will ultimately help me with my creativity and my creative process. Creativity involves thinking and what better way to improve your mind then to challenge it to think differently and change its own process? To conclude, yes these blogs may seem like busywork the majority of the time they're being done, but that doesn't necessarily mean they can't help with the future. These readings could make a person realize that they really like making up characters and stories or they really like the process of putting sounds in a movie. Or it could help a person that they loathe both those components of movies or stories. Either way, neither of those things should be considered a waste of time.

Blog Assignment #2

http://changethis.com/manifesto/51.01.YourHowl/pdf/51.01.YourHowl.pdf

Students in Flaum’s class are assigned to write a 5-page story on whatever they wanted. Flaum discusses Nick’s story. This story is about a tiger who is constantly trying to escape from a zoo only to find that every time he successfully escapes, he winds up back in another cage in a different zoo. The story continues with this tiger always escaping and always ending up in another cage. Nick doesn’t end the story. This is to show that every single of us is trapped in our own “cages” and instead of trying to escape, we should accept it and continue living.

"Don't You Remember" by Adele is one song that has a lot of influence in my life. A lot of times, I play this song when I am having trouble getting work done for some of my classes. I have never been in love, which is a concept the song discusses, but the simple lyrics, "Don't You Remember" help me to remember why I am doing what I am doing. It helps me think about why I need to do my work and work hard on specific class projects. It's because I am trying to do what I love, which is to go off to Hollywood and be an actress. It's also metaphorical to when I will be doing what I love again which is acting. The beginning of the song starts off with the lyrics, "when will I see you again? You left with no goodbyes, not a single word was said". This speaks to me because I have not performed in any musicals or videos since I left for college and the beginning line definitely makes me think about when I am going to get those types of opportunities again. The song then transitions into, "I know I have a fickle heart, and a bitterness". This line particularly sticks out to me because fickle means, "likely to change". I feel like in any walk of life, people can identify with that lyric. At anytime, people know that they can have a change of heart and it's nice to have a song that those people can identify with. For me particularly, this song reminds me that, should my hearts desires change, it's okay and it's very normal. Those sorts of changes happen with people everyday and sometimes it's hard to remember that because one is not talking with these people everyday finding out why they changed their mind and what happened once it changed. To know that a top recording artist like Adele has those sorts of thoughts and feelings even once in her life allows all of her listeners to be able to feel closer to her as a person and connect with her on a more personal level. In the second verse, one of her lyrics is, "or have you completely erased me from your memory?" For some odd reason, this line helps me to never forget some of the great things that I have done in my life so far and to remember where I came from. These are the components that could potentially keep me sane when I face so much rejection at first. To keep sane, I have to remember that I have done some really great and satisfying things so far. These particular things made me really happy and that is all that is needed to remember that I really am chasing what I love. This song also has a very slow and soothing tempo, which is very conducive to a creative mind. It helps collect my thoughts so that when they are transferred to some sort of medium, whether that be writing, a drawing,  a computer, etc, the words no longer come out jumbled and confusing, but with grace and precision.

Blog assignment #1

Melina [antagonist]

The color of the antagonist is red. This picture is a great representation of the antagonist because in the picture of the antagonist many of these colors are represented. The shirt on the antagonist is nearly the same color of the sky in this picture while the red is nearly the same color as the skirt on the antagonist. The black of the trees in this picture are a good representation of the black background in which this character is placed. Melina’s red colors include value because if you were to put her colors on a color wheel, you would see her colors moving towards black the darker they got.

This is a good representation of Melina because in her picture, all of the lighting is coming from behind or beside her to create a more shadowy kind of lighting on her face. The intent was to create mystery and this picture accurately shows that. Although you cannot see this persons face and you can see Melina’s, Melina still has a kind of mystery about her thanks to the dimly lit city behind her. The mood that this sort of lighting creates is a sinister, evil mood. The perfect kind of lighting that you would see for an evil character or the antagonist.

This is a picture of a diamond shaped blimp in the sky. This accurately describes Melina because as you get close to the picture you can see that the picture is very blurry. Thus creating the idea of mystery. This picture could now be anything because of the blurriness and essentially, anytime you see Melina flying through they air, she too could be anything. You also see this diamond shape in the air which is accurate, again, for Melina because she has the ability to fly. This could very well be what a person would see if they saw Melina flying through the air.

Elena (protagonist)

The color of the protagonist (Elena) is blue. This picture shows the may different hues that you have with the color blue. Down towards the bottom of the picture you see more turquois colors which is the color of the protagonist’s shirt. As you go up on the picture, you get more deep and dark blues which goes along with the protagonist’s pants. As this picture accurately shows and as the picture of the character shows, saturation is included. The closer you get to the bottom of this picture, the whiter it gets which shows saturation.

This photo accurately descirbes the light of Elena. In Elena’s photo, all the light is coming from above her which creates more of a darker color, or shadows, on the sides. With a more direct light on her face and body, you receive a clearer image of her face. With this clearer image, you can see the innocent features and smile of Elena. This lighting also creates a brighter mood because of how much of the background you can see. Along with that, that background is very light, contributing to the innocence of the picture.

This picture very accurately describes the shape and persona of Elena. Here, you see a diamond shape in the sky and that diamond is very bright which attends to the persona that we see for Elena. She is supposed to be the view of light and good and this picture accurately shows that along with incorporating the shape that Elena is. Along with that, the light is mostly on the diamond shape creating different shadows on the sides of the picture and the ground. This also is seen in the picture of Elena.
